The Brewery

Cannon Royall Brewery occupies a rear portion of the Fruiterers Arms pub on the outskirts of the tiny village of Uphampton in a pleasantly rural location.

Jim Wonders set up the brewery in 1993 occupying the buildings that were once the old cider house. These have been adapted over the years to produce what can only be described as a unique and quirky brewery.

An outside open area received a roof covering to provide some protection from the weather with a plaque mysteriously appearing naming it the ‘Millenium Passage’. This has been it’s name eversince.

The Millenium Passage leads to a flight of wooden steps leading up to the brewing room which contains the mash tun, copper and door to the office. It’s up these steps that the bags of malt are carried.

Stand at the door of the brewing room and this is what you see. Straight ahead is the mash tun used for mixing the grain and liquor and to the right, sunk into the floor is the copper. Metal railings stop anyone inadvertently tumbling in.

And to finish our mini tour, a very atmospheric early morning winter scene looking towards the cold stores. On the right is the grain store with some artfully arranged bags of spent malt in front of it.

Tour over. Hope you enjoyed it!
